HANDBOOK

1. Communication

1.1 All lesson bookings, changes, and absence notifications must be made via your dedicated Leap Lessons WhatsApp group.

1.2 You can assume your lesson is scheduled as normal unless we contact you.

1.3 Planned closures and holidays are listed at leaplessons.com/calendar, which we recommend bookmarking.

1.4 If you know in advance that you will be absent, we require a WhatsApp message even if you’ve mentioned it verbally.

1.5 Lessons for students under 18 must be managed by a parent or guardian.

2. Attendance & Absences

2.1 Leap Lessons operates on a membership model. Fees cover a weekly place as a core student, rather than pay-per-lesson.

2.2 Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, or non-attendance without notice, are charged at the full rate during Northern Irish term time only.

2.3 Advance-notice absences are also charged, as the weekly place remains reserved.

2.4 When notice is given, we will look to see if a suitable alternate group or solo slot is available as a once-off. If we can’t get an alternate slot during term time, we will give you a “makeup” lesson at no charge during summer. This policy only applies to your usual weekly instrumental lesson. So, you won’t be charged for cancellations for Band Lessons.

2.5 During July and August (summer holidays), cancellations with more than 24 hours notice are not charged

2.6 If we’re not able to reschedule your lesson when you’re absent, we’ll support learning with a bespoke practice-along video and unlimited feedback to keep you progressing at home

2.7 If we don’t get a response to a lesson offer within 18 hours, we may need to offer that slot to another student, to keep things running smoothly

2.8 In cases of repeated absence or poor communication, we reserve the right to reallocate the weekly slot to another student.

4. At Your Lesson

4.1 Parents and guardians are responsible for their child’s safety when travelling to and from lessons.

4.2 Students should bring required equipment (e.g. guitar cables, drumsticks). Spares may be available if items are occasionally forgotten.

4.3 Guitarists are encouraged to arrive with guitars tuned where possible; we are always happy to help if needed.

4.4 Parents and guardians are very welcome to sit in on lessons, provided this supports the student’s learning.

5. Payments

5.1 Current lesson pricing is available at leaplessons.com/pricing.

5.2 All lesson fees must be paid digitally within the week the lesson takes place.

5.4 If a balance remains unpaid for more than three weeks, lessons may be paused until the account is brought up to date.

6. School-Cancelled Lessons

6.1 If we need to cancel a lesson due to teacher illness or unforeseen circumstances, this will be recorded as a school-cancelled lesson.

6.2 We will make up any school-cancelled lessons during the summer, during July or August.

7. Behaviour & Wellbeing

7.1 Students are expected to treat teachers, peers, and the learning space with respect.

7.2 We understand that challenging behaviour is a form of communication and do not use punitive discipline.

7.3 Behaviour support follows a minimum-necessary, child-specific approach, based on ongoing communication with parents or guardians.

7.4 If behavioural difficulties are anticipated, parents or guardians must attend lessons initially so we can create a supportive, proactive strategy together.
