HANDBOOK

Communication

  • All lesson bookings are solely taken through your dedicated Whatsapp group.

  • You can always assume that your lesson is scheduled unless we have been in touch.

  • All our closures can be found at leaplessons.com/calendar - we encourage you to bookmark this link.

  • We always need a Whatsapp message if you know in advance that you will be absent from a lesson, even if you have verbally told us.

  • We only book lessons with over 18s. Lessons for students under 18 must be done through a parent/guardian.

  • We ask that parents do not invite their child to your Whatsapp group if they are under 18.

Attendance

  • Cancellations which are given with less than 24 hour’s notice or ‘no shows’ incur the full lesson fee.

  • However, in this case, we will provide a “catch-up video”. We also welcome students to send a progress video, which we will respond to with feedback to keep you on track for your practice goals.

  • In the event of continued absence or poor communication, we reserve the right to give your weekly slot to another client.

  • When we offer you a lesson slot, we will hold it for as long as possible. However, we may have to give that slot to another student if we have been waiting for more than 12 hours for your response.

At Your Lesson

  •  It is parents'/guardians’ responsibility to ensure adequate supervision of their child when walking to and from their lesson,. We ask that parents/guardians ensure that their child does not run or put themselves at risk on the way to and from their lesson, especially near the road.

  •  We ask that clients bring all materials needed for their lessons (cables for guitarists, drumsticks etc), but we can provide spares if these are occasionally forgotten.

  • It will save time if guitarists can come with their guitars in tune. We can help with this if you or your child do not know how to tune your guitar.

  • Parents and guardians are always welcome to sit in on lessons unless it impedes the students’ learning. Parents are welcome to participate in the lesson, but ask that they allow the teacher to take the lead in terms of giving constructive feedback and correction to the student.

Payment

  •  You can always find the links to lesson prices at www.leaplessons.com/pricing

  • All lesson payments must be made within the week of the lesson.

  • Lesson Type Change Notification: If your lesson is normally within a Small Group (£15) or Explore class (£10) and all other members are absent, we will notify that the fee will change to a solo rate (£25). You do not have to accept this lesson type, and can be marked absent in this case at no cost.

Behaviour Management

  • Our behavioural standards dictate that all students treat their teachers, peers and the space with respect, and do their best to step out of their comfort zone on their lessons.

  • We believe that challenging behaviour among children is a form of communication. So, we do not punish students if they do not adhere to our behavioural standards.

  • Our behaviour management strategy runs by the “minimum necessary” principle, it is completely specific to each child and is based on ongoing communication with parents. We believe that positive reinforcement with clear boundaries is a more powerful approach than ‘telling off’ students.

  • If a child is experiencing behavioural difficulty, we make it clear that we want them to love being with us, but that we not forcing them to stay, so they are always free to end the lesson if they are unable to manage their emotions.

  • If guardians believe that their child might experience behavioural difficulties, we require that parents sit in on lessons and work with us to creative a preemptive bejaviour management strategy before they attend.

Inclusion

  • Age, gender, sexuality, race, neuro(a)typicality or (dis)ability does not prevent participation in our lessons. However, we are unable to provide medical or personal care for physically disabled individua

Video/Photographs

We record video for the three purposes below. All are completely optional, and you are welcome to change your mind about permission at any time.

  • Recordings as a Learning Tool For You

We may ask to record you performing to help enhance your practice at home, as you reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. We only need permission once for this.

  • Recordings as a Learning Tool For Others

We may ask to show other clients videos of your performances, so they can reflect on what progress could look like for them. We only need permission once for this.

  • Social Media

We may ask to share photos or videos of you on Facebook. We will ask permission for this every time we intend to post something with your image on it.

Medical Requirements

  • We need you to keep us up to date if you have any health needs that might require medical attention during your lesson e.g. asthma.

  • We do not store spare medical equipment (e.g. inhalers), and require all students to bring everything they need in this area.

  • While there will always be at least one team member on site with basic first aid training, we will always defer medical care to a guardian or medical professional.

Hearing Protection

We strongly advise all clients to protect their hearing both in and out of their lesson by;

  • Listening to music on headphones at the lowest volume possible.

  • Wearing ear protection. Ear plugs is always available on request during lessons.

  • We encourage parents to buy children hearing protection, particularly if they play drums.
